Yes, I am a bit late for this one but the end-of-year rush got to me, As the year wraps up, I’m not here to give you a typical “I did this and that” list or a round-up of the year’s best marketing campaigns. Instead, I want to reflect on 2024 on a personal reflection level.
It’s easy to get caught up in the craziness of deadlines. But this year, the phrase "health is wealth" has taken on an entirely new meaning for me. I was in the surgery room more times than expected and I felt that truly, nothing else mattered. The real learning of this year lies in balancing work with self-care and I am glad that I understood that, finally.
Ah, of course, I must say a few words about artificial intelligence. This year, it was all about AI tools: from chatbots to automated content generation, AI promised to revolutionize how we approach marketing. But here’s the thing—marketers are still figuring it out. Sure, there have been some wins, but AI hasn’t been the magic bullet everyone hoped for. There’s a constant struggle to find the right balance between human creativity and machine learning. The human touch, storytelling, and empathy are still irreplaceable, and marketers are grappling with how to combine that with the cold precision of AI. This tension hasn’t gone away—it’s a work in progress, and we’re learning as we go.
On a more personal note, 2024 has been a year of significant growth. Writing has been a grounding practice, reminding me of the power of reflection and the importance of staying connected to the scientific world. Not so badly, I have 6 outputs of research, and I am happy about it. I also took on a new challenge this year: teaching 150 students in one semester. It was an exhilarating and humbling experience, pushing me to refine my teaching style and expand my capacity to engage with a larger audience. There were moments of chaos, no doubt, but there were also moments of deep connection with students, which made it all worthwhile.
I could go on and on and talk about what has been done but as you already know me, I do not like to talk about myself.
As we enter the new year, I encourage you to pause, reflect, and breathe. Health, both physical and mental, is our true asset in an ever-evolving world.
Here’s to a more balanced, thoughtful, and resilient 2025!
